QUEST help

For the person who lives here, and for the carer. Large buttons. You can speak instead of typing.

What this app is for

QUEST keeps a list of what is in the house and where it is. It helps if sight is poor, memory is unreliable, you need an insurance list, or you want to declutter safely.

Scan open shelves, cupboards and drawers. Name every object. Map the rooms. Ask “where is…”. Get spoken safety advice. Download a searchable PDF. Walk with the camera and hear the path and any danger.

The coloured buttons

Home Voice, status, household name.

Scan Photo or video of open storage. Speak or type the objects. Save the list.

Map Add rooms. Tap a room. Write hazards and how to move.

Objects Search the whole house list.

Organise Spoken advice: safer, easier to find, what to box up.

Find Live camera. Say what you want. Tell the app which room you are in. Hear the path and warnings.

PDF Download a searchable house record for insurers and carers.

Moon / sun (top right) switches light and dark.

For the carer — rooms and objects

The person in the house only needs LOOK (green button). You build the map. The on-phone model is weak. Use Grok on a computer for the real list.

Rooms

You type the room name and press Add room.

The app makes a coloured tile and stores the room. Kitchen, Living room and Bedroom are already there.

Tap a tile. You type hazards and how to move (rug, step, low table). The app keeps that note with the room.

Whole-room video, then Grok

LOOK on the phone cannot name a cluttered room well. Grok on the PC can.

  1. Stand in the doorway. Record a slow video of the whole room. Pause on doors, floors, walkways.
  2. Open each cupboard and drawer. Take a still photo of each one, close enough to read tins and packets.
  3. On the computer, open Grok. Send the stills (and short clips if needed). Ask Grok to: name every object; mark hazards; say left / right / floor / shelf; suggest numbers for this room.
  4. Grok will give a list you can copy. That list is better than LOOK’s on-phone names.

One still per open cupboard or drawer. A blurry sweep will miss the back of a shelf.

Put Grok’s list into QUEST

  1. Open the full house app → Scan.
  2. Choose the same room you filmed.
  3. Type the place (whole room, or “top cupboard left”).
  4. Paste or type Grok’s object names, separated by commas.
  5. Press Save list.
  6. The app numbers them for that room: KIT-01, KIT-02, BED-01…

Object submenu (cross reference)

After Save list, use Objects in this room scan.

Tap KIT-03 (or the name). Add the exact place, notes, insurance value. Save this object.

The number stays tied to that room. You can say “KIT-03” later. The PDF prints the same numbers.

What you must still do

QUEST will not invent a drawer you never listed.

What the app does without extra typing

LOOK on the phone (person in the house)

Green LOOK / TAKE PHOTO is only a quick warning (chair, cup, floor). It is not the catalogue. You build the catalogue with Grok + Scan as above.

Things you can say

Press Listen first, then speak.

Voice works best in Chrome, Edge or Safari, with the microphone allowed.

House list for quick Find

Find only searches the local house list on this phone or computer.

After Grok analyses stills, open Objects, paste one object per line (KIT-01, blue mug, left shelf, Kitchen), press Update house list.

Repeat when the house changes. Find uses the new list at once.

Finding something (live)

  1. Open Find. Press Camera on. Allow the camera.
  2. Say or type the object.
  3. Set I am in this room, or say “I’m in the hallway”.
  4. Press Guide me. The app reads the room, the exact place, and any danger in the room you are standing in.
  5. When you reach the right room it will say the object is here, and which shelf or drawer.

The camera is so you can look. The spoken path comes from the list you already saved. The app does not itself recognise objects in the picture.

Camera needs a secure page (https) or a file / localhost page, and permission.

Safety

Insurance and PDF

Open PDF and download the current list. The text is searchable (Ctrl+F or the reader search). Keep values in the object names if you want them on the schedule, for example “TV 350”.

A sample file is QUEST-inventory-sample.pdf.

Memory and declutter

Always return an item to the same named place. Ask QUEST instead of hunting.

On Organise, box things unused for a year that are not insured or sentimental. Review the same rooms on the next visit.
